The Member Spotlight Shines on Auctionseast

Halloween is one of my favorite celebrations of the year, because it brings back fond memories of my mom.  When I was a kid, she'd help my sister and me come up with costumes every year. We weren't terribly artistic, but mom's enthusiasm always made up for any lack of talent.  I remember I was a grocery bag in 5th grade. That won me the "Most Unique Costume" award -- but more importantly, those memories I have of my mom will be with me the rest of my life.

The mother/son bond is special, and it is the subject of this edition of the Member Spotlight. Auctionseast and his mother were devasted to learn that she had cancer.  He had just agreed to a very lucrative job offer on Wall Street, only to have his family be dealt this most unfortunate blow.  His mother, who is also his best friend, was sick, and he had to stay home to take care of her.  But what type of job would allow him the flexibility needed to be caregiver and breadwinner simultaneously?

Auctionseast, like so many others in the Community, started a business by selling on eBay.  In the process, to help his mother keep her mind off the pain and troubles of going through chemotherapy and radiation, he taught her how to list the items to be sold from his business.  Eventually she learned all the details of shipping, and today she brags about knowing how much an item weighs by just holding it in her hand.  Little did he realize but as he states in the video, "eBay was the catalyst to her well being."  She was able function and lead a productive life all while battling the disease that affects so many Americans. 

When you watch the video you'll learn that today she is 100% healthy and free of cancer. This past summer she was able to celebrate her first vacation trip since she was diagnosed.  Incredibly, she chose to take her "vacation" to Boston to attend eBay Live! 2007.  Auctionseast and his mother were able to meet other sellers and buyers, as well as many of the teams they have come to know at eBay through running their business.
