Hello again, and welcome to our latest installment of the New Member Spotlight. I suspect many of you saw eBay's Toy Boat ad from 2004. It's the one where the kid loses his boat and finds it years later on eBay. Even as I rewatch it today, it really brings the warm fuzzies. Last week I had the pleasure of talking to cealtr, who shared with me a similar story about an auction that her father, mikespoppy, stumbled across.
Don't forget...we want to hear your stories too. Remember, it can be anything from a uniquely interesting item you sold, to how eBay has led to a dramatic change in your life. You can submit your stories directly to chatterblog@ebay.com (team), ryank@ebay.com (me), or on our dedicated discussion board thread. Also, don't forget to subscribe to our RSS Feed, so you can get updates each time a new post goes up.
My eBay Experience
by cealtr
You know how they say you can find anything on eBay? Well it's true. You may even find something you're not looking for!My dad (mikespoppy) has been buying on eBay for years. In February 2007 he was searching for Schwinn Bikes. One of the items that appeared was a VINTAGE SCHWINN BICYCLE SNAPSHOT PHOTO. It was being auctioned by a seller in Illinois (3hearts) and had 1 bid. Keep in mind that he was not looking to bid on an old 3x4 black & white photograph. When he clicked the link to view the picture, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
Like any kid, my dad wanted a bike. It was the early 1950's in Pittsburgh, PA and he was 13. It took a while for his parents to be able to afford one but it finally happened. It was a Schwinn. Burgundy & cream with a basket. He was so proud of it that he rode it all over the neighborhood showing it off. A friend's mother grabbed her camera when her son put their dog in the bikes basket.
FAST FORWARD 55 YEARS: The picture he found on eBay was him on his bike! The winning bidder? mikespoppy, of course : )
P.S. He still likes his wheels!
