Boise State Has a Fiesta

Posted by Jeff on January 02, 2007 at 03:07 PM in General | Permalink

Jeff_post_109 For many of us, the New Year's weekend included watching at least some college football (forBsu_1 too many of us, it involved watching way too much college football). Even if you only have a passing interest in the game, hopefully you saw last night's Fiesta Bowl. It pitted the University of Oklahoma, a traditional power, against Boise State University, who, despite their perfect record, was seen by many as a big underdog since they play in a "lesser" conference.

Here's the summary: Boise State jumps out to a quick lead, Oklahoma crawls back, and goes ahead on an interception return for a TD with a minute to go. On 4th and 18 Boise State uses a hook and ladder play to tie it, but gives up a TD on the first play of overtime. Again faced with a 4th down and needing a TD, they use a halfback option to score, and then make the two-point conversion with a modified Statue of Liberty play to win. It was an absolutely unbelievable chain of events - if you haven't seen the highlights, keep an eye out for Sportscenter (or check out this clip on Youtube that someone put together of all the key plays). And to top it off, Boise State's star running back proposed to his cheerleader girlfriend on national TV afterwards (even if FOX's Chris Myers kinda let the cat out of the bag first). Between the David v. Goliath feel, and all the trickery at the end, many people are calling it one of the best college football games ever.

The point of this post? As usual, what happens in real life is reflected on eBay. Boise State items, which had been selling at a rate of between 15-40 per day for the past few weeks, spiked to almost 70 yesterday, and moved over another 80 today (and that's just up to this writing, and of course doesn't reflect items listed that won't end until later this week). So if you have that BSU item you've been meaning to sell, now is probably as good a time as any to list it. And if you have Louisville or Wake Forest stuff to sell, keep your eyes peeled to tonight's Orange Bowl to see who wins.
