Beating the Yankees Means Boost in Sales

Jeff_post_71 Like most baseball fans, I was planted at home on Saturday watching Game 4 of the Yankees-Tigers series. That essentially means that I spent a few hours staring in amazement as Detroit's Jeremy Bonderman shredded what could be the best lineup in baseball history, sending the Yankees home for the season. (Unfortunately, I couldn't tease my notoriously-Yankee-loving colleague Brian, known as Gianni out on the boards and pictured in one of my past articles, about their shockingly-early exit because my own LA Dodgers went down in flames in the first round as well.)

Bonderman has always had huge potential, and at 23, is already a 4-year veteran of the major leagues. But his stock on the national stage may never be higher, and I wondered how that translated on eBay. Well, apparently beating the Yankees is the best thing you can do for your items. Doing a couple quick searches with eBay Marketplace Research, I found that the on gameday, sales of "Bonderman" items went up by a factor of 6 from their usual level. About 20 items are sold on average every day, but that number skyrocketed to 120 on Saturday, as Bondermania was sweeping the baseball world. Now to see if he can keep it up against the Oakland A's....
