Mumbai blasts – eBay India and the Indian Red Cross team up to help

Earlier this week, I blogged about the terrorist bomb blasts in Mumbai, India, and how the event reminded me of the amazing ways in which Communities come together in times of tragedy. Many members will remember how the eBay Community came together in sorrow and support after other horrific tragedies in recent memory – such as Hurricane Katrina, the South East Asian tsunami, and – perhaps the most heart-breaking of all – September 11th.
But great communities always bounce back, and Mumbai is already recovering. And the eBay Community is pitching in to help. The eBay India team has partnered with the Indian Red Cross to set up a process to enable eBay Community members and employees to make contributions to the relief efforts in the city.
If you'd like to contribute, just click on this link - http://pages.ebay.in/charity/indianredcross.html and then click on the amount you'd like to contribute, at the bottom of the page. This will take you to charity listings from indianredcrosssocietymaharashtra (Maharashtra is the state that Mumbai is the capital of).
The amounts are in Indian rupees (Rs.). Here are some estimated currency conversions:
Rs 100 = $2
Rs 250 = $5
Rs 500 = $11
Rs 1,000 = $21
Rs 5,000 = $109
Rs 10,000 = $217
I just used my credit card with PaisaPay (eBay India's online payment solution) to make a contribution. It was super-easy, and I felt good at having been able to help the victims of this tragedy in a small way.
Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.
